Subject:	Dr D, advice on thyroglossal cyst

My 6 year old son has what doctors are calling a thyroglossal cyst at the top of his neck. It looks like an adam's apple that is too high. He was put on antibiotics and has seen a specialist. We are waiting for a cat scan and then surgery. I am really hoping to avoid that route and already feel bad about going the antibiotic route however it swelled up really bad and we didn't know what to do.
Anyway, I've been 811 for awhile but the family is still cooked vegan although I'm hoping my wife will go for putting our son on 811 for a trial.

Anyway, doctors say this is something that develops in utero and manifests years later. I'm just curious if you have ever had any experience with this condition and if you have any recommendations. Is surgery necessary?
