Durian grows in the Hawaiian Islands but it's very EXPENSIVE. It typically sells for $3.50-$4.50/lb and when you realize that 80% or more of what you're paying for by weight is inedible it becomes quite expensive.

Paying on average $30 or more for a small durian all you can hope is that your substantial investment is WORTH IT (it is SOMETIMES).

Because of this we don't buy it that often ...
