Since when do foods that are typically eaten on 811rv exsit in their current form? And how would them be our "true dietary nature"?
The modern human's anatomy (or the evolution thereof) tells the story of leaving the trees and the forest, hence leaving the fibrous fruits and leaves; especially the bipedalism, long legs, large brains and comparably small guts with a short colon, atypical to other non-human frugivorous primates.
The brain-gut relation points to the utillisation of starchy vegetables-a reliable, high carbohydrate source to feed the big brains and less fibrous to release energy required for digestion.
Remember, you can subsist nowadays on high sugar fruits that are created by man through breeding, and infrastructures that make those fruits available in mass quantities year-round.
It's more a choice out of opportunity than "nature".
It works if it works. If.
