Hello everyone, I just joined this site, so I thought it appropriate to say hello and introduce myself. I have just finished reading Dr. Graham's 80/10/10 book for the 2nd time. The first time I read it, about a year ago, I tried to follow it for about 3 or 4 weeks. I felt better every day, even though I was 'cheating' here and there because I have never truly went vegetarian, much less vegan. I have had a hard time getting it going again for a lot of reasons. One, I have been living the SAD diet for so long, that this seems utterly foreign. Two, because I am the worst kind of emotional eater, and with the stress of my life, not to mention a constant struggle with depression, I indulge myself often. Three, because my fiance, who I live with, is a happy SAD eater and so there are always many things around tempting me. I really have come to a point in my life where I either get my health together or things are going to get much worse. I was diagnosed with three autoimmune diseases in 2005 (Graves Disease, Hashimotos disease, and Graves Ophthalmopathy). I have no doubt whatsoever, especially after having read Graham and many others, that had I been eating better, healthier foods, I would not have gotten sick. I thought because I had been relatively thin and active that it didn't matter what I ate - boy, was I wrong. Here I am 7 years later, and I am hovering between 180 to 190 pounds. Everything hurts, I am tired all of the time, and my adrenal gland is exhausted. Oh boy, look at all of that feeling sorry for myself stuff up there! Sorry everybody, I'm not usually such a downer. I just thought I should be honest about where I'm at. I hope that utilizing this website will give me the info/support that I need to get my head into this 'game'. If anyone knows of any 811 groups in the Los Angeles area, I would be thrilled to hear about them. Many thanks for listening. :)
