I often see people saying how expensive this diet is, but I really don't think it is (or hasn't been in my experience thus far).
We have very very little money, and live in Europe with "real" winters, so we don't have access to fresh fruit year round.
With these limitations, I still manage to eat and live well this way. My diet may not be as richly varied as it is in the summer, but food is for sustenance, not stimulus.

You can use frozen fruits and vegetables, if necessary. Bananas are plentiful and inexpensive year-round, and citrus is in season in the winter.
The rest of the year you can get very cheap fruits and vegetables, and also forage and grow your own foods.

Maybe this isn't the case where you are, but meat and dairy are expensive here. The only fruits and vegetables that are expensive are the out of season ones.

I figure I'm taking all the money I would have spent on meat, cheese, milk, snacks, supplements, medications, and so on, and putting it towards this. Depending on how you change your life you could also add to this the cost of cosmetics and toiletries that you don't really need (and often don't need once your body isn't having to expunge all that waste and toxins), and transportation costs if you start commuting by walking or biking, etc.

Yes we live in an imperfect world, but you do the best that you can with what you can. There's no sense in having an all or nothing approach to this.
