Thank you so much for the explanation about the carrot juice. I took this up after getting Dr. Day's DVDs and workbook. I learned so much. All of her things are in line with Dr. G's practices as far as I can tell. Her diet is primarily for cancer patients or anyone with ANY kind of health problems. She advocates ALL RAW - although she does permit cooked food for those who are too ill to eat raw right off the bat. She says the carrot juice is for extra nutrition so that the body can absorb it quickly.
But I see it would be better to eat the fibre too if one could.
I am formulating all you said here in my mind as I write this to you. What I'm going to do, FIRST OFF, is begin by at night, if we find ourselves wanting to "go over the road" -- we will have bananas INSTEAD. That will be a MAJOR improvement. We will make this our FIRST priority while it's so cold. No junk food allowed - our cooked supper - and NO dessert of ANY kind. If we must eat, we will have BANANAS. Bless you for saying you think they will get rid of the apply belly syndrome. That makes me feel so hopeful.
So first thing is replace junk eating with BANANAS.
Thank you about how to get them, too. We rarely get over 10 at a time - so we will up our intake.
Thank you also about explaining about the veg. I will re-read that and other parts of 80-10-10.
Now let me share with you just ONE concern I have.
I had bought the book "The Hallelujah Diet" by Dr. George Malkmus. He advocates all raw with a cooked evening meal, (15% cooked food, he says).
Christopher, I think my one major drawback from feeling good about going 100% raw is -- something Dr. Malkmus said: "One thing, be careful to have fruit only for breakfast, because if you have a lot of it, your bones tend to go a bit soft."
Well --- that wouldn't have hit me so hard EXCEPT that here we are in a virtually sunless climate, and we don't want to supplement with Vitamin D.
So I have been trying to tread cautiously on a lot of fruit due to what Dr. Malkmus said in his book.
Do you see my logic in that decision? (I know junk food is no better, but that is a different story.) -- so under the circumstances of a cold sunless climate and not wanting to supplement, I thought it would be BEST to limit fruit and do mostly GREENS. I would like to hear your thoughts about this and I'd be so grateful for you to straighten me out if you think I need some thought-changing on that.
Well, as is the case with your post and those of JustMe and KT1's and dear Katie --- even with this long reply, I STILL haven't responded fully enough or shown the appreciation I feel in my heart enough. Still worlds more to say. It will keep though till next time.
Just THANK YOU. Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions and wisdom.
