I just remembered this post of Luke's on the subject and thought you might find it helpful: The amount of work your body does in digesting a meal of raw fruits and vegetables is not as much as the amount of work required to digest a typical cooked food meal. This reduced work load means fewer calories are used to digest raw fruits and vegetables. You get more "bang for your buck" when you eat these foods, as more fuel (calories) that you get from your food is freed up for physical activity and the like. If you take into your body more calories than you need, you will predictably gain weight. Lower the amount of calories you consume, be more active, or accept that weight gain is going to continue if you continue to eat more calories than you need. Luke [this was in response to someone gaining unwanted weight; I know that isn't your situation, but thought his explanation re cooked vs. raw was still very good]
