There are many systems for building muscle. All involve resistance. Whether we are talking bands, weights, or calisthenics, all of the various systems have merit. The one rep system I mentioned can be done in a variety of ways, depending upon whether your goal is size, strength, speed, muscular endurance, etc. What I was referring to in my book was the idea that after a warm up, and after sufficient reps have been done with reasonably heavy resistance, that one last repetition be performed, at maximum resistance. The idea is that if your max lift is, say, 100 pounds, and you do one rep, that you would be tired enough so that you couldn't perform a second repetition. There are other methods, and they work too. Training brings specific results. You get better at that which you train for.
