| Subject: | Dissolving my teeth?! Dr. Graham please help! |
|
Date: | January 18, 2012 at 7:57 pm PST |
Hi Dr. Graham,
I have been following 811 for a few months and love it! This lifestyle has
given me peace after years of struggling with disordered eating. I am
seeing wonderful results already in many ways.
The only trouble is I have had increasing sensitivity and pain on the
chewing surfaces of my molars. I have always had good dental health, and
do not currently have any decay, fractures, etc.
I went to my dentist today (she touts herself as an 'eco dentist', which is
why I chose her). She said everything looked fine, my teeth are natural,
white, clean and my gums are healthy. However, she told me that I am at
risk for 'dissolving my teeth,' by eating so much fruit. She said I should
avoid citrus altogether, take calcium supplements, use a prescription
toothpaste with calcium and phosphate, and gargle with the maximum-
allowable fluoride solution. I was horrified! I asked to see the ingredients in
these products, and found parabens, colorings, preservatives, and glycol
chemicals I might also have in my garage.
I flatly told her no, thank you, and she said I would then likely need multiple
crowns in the years ahead. She said the least I should do is have a varnish
fluoride treatment at her office, which I protested, but ultimately acquiesced
because the pain is quite intolerable. The sensitivity toothpastes with
potassium nitrate only help with gums, not exposed dentin, so what more
could I say?
I'm sorry this is so long- my question for you is, if I brush softly using only
water or the calcium Eco-Dent powder, or tooth soap, can this really be
remedied (or at least alleviated)? Have you witnessed people re-
mineralizing exposed dentin?
Lastly, and quite apart from my question above, I am wondering if your wife
supplemented at any stage in her pregnancy with Faychesa. I imagine you
have answered these things many times before, so I apologize in advance.
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for everything you do!
