Your nerve root of the tooth will eventually die, and the tooth will crumble. A root canal allows you to "save" the tooth, or the function of the tooth, without having a gap, or looking for implants. Since neither choice is great, it is just a decision to make that you have to live with. You'll have to deal with it, now or later.
