Subject:         Sleep - how does our body know...
Date: January 17, 2012 at 4:43 am PST

I understand this lifestyle is about going to bed as early as possible and rising early too - in some respect we are trying to rise and sleep with the sun as it rises and sets.

However I have a question - Where I am right now it is dark when I get up and dark when I go to sleep. So does it make a difference when I get up and go to sleep? If i were to follow the sun I would be getting up at 8am (currently I get up around 6.30am) and going to sleep at 4pm (impossible - I work until at least 5.30pm). I go to bed at around 9.30-10pm currently.

So would it then matter if I changed my sleep pattern to go to bed later and then get up later - the amount of light my body would be exposed to would be the same and the amount of sleep. I would still be getting up when it was dark and going to sleep when it were dark.

Does my body know? Should I maintain my current sleep pattern and still try and get up as "early" as possible despite the darkness? (measurement of time is of course a human invention)

Thanks in advance!
