Subject:         Aerobic vs anaerobic training

Just wondering if anyone knows the details in the bodies processes during aerobic exercise and anaerobic? And whether there's any truth to the idea that one must build an aerobic base before any anerobic activity, or one is just taxing the body and doing more harm than good? I am reading this about Stu Middleman, but admittedly the book is rather old.
