This woman was on a hike and collapsed.

Had she been left there she would have died for sure.

Would she have ended up in the hospital if she hadn't fasted? Could be. Especially if she stayed on the SAD diet. That is a sure way of landing yourself in the hospital. Just a matter of time.

The hospital was used in this emergency situation to reverse a condition in the body brought about by stressing it: first by rich foods, then by the omitting of all food.

I do not know what was done at the hospital. But to say the hospital is what killed her is conjecture. The two other fasting deaths I referenced above did not die at a hospital. Drugs did not do it. Lack of food for several weeks and then going back to daily living too soon no doubt were the contributing factors.

I do not believe we have a soul, so that argument is not one I personally feel is plausible.

Yes, we may never be able to prevent all deaths, but I wonder if you are a mother? Would you strap a seatbelt on your baby's car seat? Would you even use a car seat? Do you believe in traffic lights? Why or why not?

Death can't always be prevented, but we know that car seats, seat belts and traffic lights prevent deaths. Are there rare occasions that they cause deaths? yes. But they are so rare, they almost don't count.

Yes, people can die from eating too rich foods too soon after a fast and Doug has written elsewhere that he follows his fasters like a hawk after the fast to make sure they don't sneak food. Can he be all places at all times? No. Do we know if she sneaked food? I have no idea.

Again, that's why there is a controlled setting and no doubt why his retreat is far from civilization making it harder to give in to temptation since those foods are not easy to come by in that setting.

I would imagine that if she had snuck in food that the hospital would see the residues in her stomach or blood work? Not sure. But if she had had chocolate or something else I would imagine that that would have been discovered. or her mate might've mentioned it?
