When these kinds of things happen, it's important to step back and scrutinize what, if anything, can be done to avoid the situation again.

Especially if this has happened before.

A raw-food only retreat for six weeks would no doubt bring about profound healing, or simply a green juice fast which would at least have minerals in it, or if one insists on water-only fasting, then more strict controls put in place.

We're here to have healing, not to have people dying as the end result.

I know many people who've had great results from fasting, but people also need to know the risks associated with fasting are higher than normal and should feel comfortable asking questions on what is being done to minimize those risks just like they would ask questions before surgery.

Even taking your suggestion of not having the walking tour at the end of the fast, but towards the beginning, or at least prohibiting fasters from taking the walking tour: SOMETHING other than the defensiveness and excuses we're getting here.

There is no ownership of this issue at all here and that is profoundly disturbing.
