#4. Long distance running is not functional. (Humans aren't designed to do it repeatedly) It sure was when there were no cars or bikes! Just watch kids play and move. My kids run everywhere. Plus why do you think the Kenyans are so good at marathons, because they functionally run long distances, in the dirt, with minimal footwear just to get to school etc, from a young age. I'd also bet Native Americans did a fair bit of running even after horses were brought in. And Roman soldiers ran 20 miles day w battle gear on the "march". For many many years the only communication between villages or campsites were runners. In fact I can't think of too many more functional activities than running, other than maybe walking, breathing, eating, sleeping, excreting and procreating.
