Hi Dr. D ~

My girl is 16 months old and I have just recently discovered plaque on her bottom teeth as well as a receding gum. I feel terrible for I have fed her quite a bit of dried mango as well as dates and didn't take good enough care of her teeth, hence the plaque. I have stopped this now but how can plaque be removed on her teeth without a cleaning (which is obviously impossible at this age)?

And the more serious problem of a receding gum very much scares me. I have receding gums as well and have just learned that peridontal disease can be transferred, probably what happened because she likes to play with my toothbrush (no more though of course).

We have an appointment scheduled with a holistic/biological dentist tomorrow for both myself and her, which I am hoping goes well. I am a bit nervous about the discussing the diet subject for fear they may fear I'm giving too much fruit. Any tips as to how I can handle this?

I know I simply did not take good enough care but now the issue is reversing it and changing habits. What is the hygenic care of baby's teeth from your perspective? I use Fredric Patnaud's tooth powder and soap, are these appropriate for a baby or is water enough with her condition?

Another issue that has come up for me recently is feeding my girl...she doesn't seem to like many of the things she did before. She has refused green smoothies for the past month or more and rarely eats lettuce any more, which she used to loooove. She particularly likes things hard enough for her to hold herself and rarely will accept anything on a spoon from me. I fed her a lot of dates because I felt like she wasn't eating many caloric dense fruits and she loves them. She gets a bit constipated still from more than half a banana but lately she has not been in to banana much at all. What sort of nut/seed butters do you recommend besides almond? What is an appropriate amount of fat for her? Very curious if I should only allow her to combine fat with acidic fruits or is sub acid acceptable? And can she have fat at any time of day? Also wondering about getting more greens into her.

Sorry for all the questions, I know your time is precious. I have received the form for your consulation and am curious about how long it takes to get a session with you? Hope to get that to you soon and go more in depth. As always, thank you deeply for your time and help!!

Love ~
Anya
