How many top athletes on bad diets live disease free until a ripe old age or continue to stay fit long after they are forced into an early retirement?

There are always people who will get away with poor eating habits, not getting enough sleep, etc., but things eventually crumble.

The guy at the gym that you are referring to could have a heart attack at 55 and nobody would see it coming... or could they? A SAD diet is directly related to the deaths of over 50% who are on it. I would say diet matters for those 50% who are affected.

Not sleeping may work for teenagers (I use to be one that lived on 3 hours sleep a night), but it DOES catch up to you eventually when our health fails.

Remember that diet is one part of the puzzle. Exercise, sleep, stress, air quality, genes, etc. all play a part in our overall health.

Think of health as a long-term goal. You want to be healthy your ENTIRE life, not just 3/4 of it :)
