Soaking adds hydration to all but the freshest of nuts, making them more digestible. Enzyme inhibitors are not involved in any way. I wouldn't bother soaking fresh nuts, but then, I don't bother soaking any nuts, unless I need them soaked for a specific texture, for a specific recipe.
