I'd say muffled, not loud. It's like the volume got turned down. But there is a little bit of sound there, kind of a high pitched sound. That sound may be coming from the other ear also. I think that sound has been there a while, but I haven't paid much attention to it.

Also, when I hold my nose, shut my mouth and try to blow out, I can feel the ear trying to open up. So maybe my eustachian tube is plugged.
