Subject:         Vegan Cat

Being a vegan is a great idea for a human, but I'm not so convinced that a cat should be one. Humans have no need for animal protein, but cats do. We have 8 essential amino acids, all of which can be obtained from plant sources. Cats need those same 8 amino acids, plus 2 additional ones that come from animal sources. A vegan cat would be deficient in those 2 essential amino acids.

I've heard of people creating cat food from plant sources and then supplementing those 2 amino acides somehow, but that sounds like a scary mad scientist thing to do. I love my cats, but I do feel bad when I buy meat for them (in the form of cat food).
