It's all about perspective isn't it?

In Ontario, Canada...

I waited a couple of weeks for a colonoscopy.
I've been admitted to emergency with an infection and had surgery that day... New Years Day.
I've waited less than a week for an MRI, and less than a week for an ultrasound.
I see my doctor on the day I show up at her office. No appointment necessary. Yes, it's a clinic. But as long as she's there, I see her.
I've never been referred to my sports medicine doctor. I called her after my physiotherapist gave me her name.
I have a friend who went down to Buffalo to have an "open" MRI and OHIP paid for it.
The same friend went to Washington, DC for a medical consultation and it was paid for by OHIP.

But I've also seen the other tragic side. My two tragic stories are about two people who did not challenge their medical professional, and just accepted. are no longer with us.

However, I am a pain in the ass. I don't like vague answers and I will challenge anything I don't understand. If you want the system to work for you up here, you have to do some of the work yourself.

Oh, and most employers do offer a supplemental health care insurance that covers a wide variety of things from dental to drugs, private rooms to physio, to counselling and medical devices. It costs anywhere from $25/month to $100/month depending on your coverage. You can also buy this from a 3rd party insurance company like BlueCross.

And the NDP were only in power for 4 years during the 90's. It's hilarious that you feel you need to bring up something that happened in the 1950's (60 years ago!) to lend weight to your argument. It's about time people stop blaming them for everything under the sun. The Conservatives did much more damage to this province's social structure, including massive cuts to OHIP and education.
