are rated at 6.8 megawatts. They cost $8.8 to purchase and install. A 1000 megawatt nuclear plant costs about $5 billion. That same output with wind turbines would cost about $1.3 billion. So why is he talking nuclear?

Well, the wind doesn't always blow, but solar could supplement the wind turbines, and if both are not putting out enough, we have a lot of natural gas to power conventional power generation. We also have high-capacity sodium sulfur batteries that can store alternative generated electricity for when needed.

The move to nuclear seems more politically motivated than reality motivated.
