The second valve closes automatically 1-2 minutes after closing the lid once enough steam action forces it to close. It doubles as an audible alarm that zero pressure has been attained when depressurizing under running water. Air is heard being sucked in once room pressure has been attained.

Also, it looks like the Magic line does have the 2nd valve and has two discreet pressure settings in the valve. By the way, I talked with the owner of Eurostoves & they decided not to carry the Magic line because they thought the Vitavit was superior to the Magic unit not only in performance but in reliability. Here is thei url: (by the way, they seem to be very into pressure cookers with a very wide selection of less known, higher quality brands-they seem like great people)

The Fissler catalog lists the pressure settings for the Vitavit Royal as centigrade temperatures. The high is 116 c & the low is 109 c. I have noticed that my cooking times are a little longer than some of the times listed by people who use Kuhn pc's. (Sabrina & others) Some of the extra time is due using an insert along with a 10 liter pc while some is probably due to slightly lower pressures. I don't mind the little extra time it takes.

Also, the owner of Eurostoves said that she thinks the new Kuhn "Top" model may have the second valve similar in function to the Fissler. She wasn't 100% sure but was going to play with a sample to see how she likes it. They teach a lot of cooking classes at their store and like to be very familiar with their products.
