Hate to break it to you Peter, but you've been brainwashed by Vector. I know personally because I went through all 20 hours of the UNPAID training, and was told by my manager that I would probably be in her key staff because of my performance in training, intelligence, drive, communication skills, confidence, and attitude.

Revision/Rebuttal to your "facts"...

Fact #1: So Cutco has been around for 60 years, other knife companies have been around a lot longer. Wusthof since 1814, Henckles for 275 years, and Shun for 100 years. Vector, on the other hand has only been around about 30.

Fact #2: Of course Alcas is one of the largest employers, Vector sends out millions of letters to students as well as advertises $15 base in newspapers and all over the internet. In addition, during training, they have us write down the names and numbers of everyone we know and then calls them all to schedule an interview. If the job was that good they would have a high retention rate of their reps and wouldn't have to search out so many applicants.

Fact #3: Now this where you should have done your research instead of reiterating the bull they have in your training manual(you're brainwashed). Do a consumer search and review online yourself instead of just believing what Vector told you, the best knives are Wusthof, followed by Henckels and nowhere in the leading contenders is cutco.

Fact #4: Wikipedia says - 440A (Cutco), having the least amount of carbon in it out of the 400 series, is the most stain-resistant; 440C, having the most carbon, is the strongest and is usually considered a more desirable choice in knifemaking than 440A. Also surgical stainless steel, which Cutco blades claim to be made out of, has a 316 grade. Medical blades, like scalpels, are made of high carbon steel, while craft blades are made of stainless steel.

Fact #5: I don't really know anything about stamping and forging, but once again all research says stamped blades are not preferred by most professional chefs because forged blades are typically thicker and heavier than stamped blades.

Fact #6: Again you should have done your research better. DEFINITION of bolster in a knife - the thick metal portion joining the handle and the blade, which adds weight and balance and keeps the cook's hand from slipping.

Fact #7: I actually like the cutco handle, but if it is the best, wouldn't other cutlery manufacturers have tried to imitate it? I like your use of the word ergonomic... straight from the training manual (again, you're brainwashed).

Fact #8: Thermoresin is "non-porous" and "dishwasher safe,"... Again, straight from your training manual dude, which by the way doesn't count as research, we filled in the blanks and they're printed by vector or alcas. No matter how you want to argue it, thermoresin does mean heated plastic.

Fact #9: Yes the "forever" guarantee sounds pretty good, but the original post clearly explains why other guarantees may be better and how cutco's may not be all it's cracked up to be.

Fact #10: Good for Cutco. That's great that they're doing something positive with all the money they're making from their overpriced knives. As for the knives being made in the U.S., that is one truth amongst the whole scam. However, Vector and the training manual forget to mention that the ice cream scoop and the metal heads of the flatware are partially made outside the US.

Fact #11: You're dumb. 70% of consumers did their shopping last year from right inside their home because of the use of the internet and computers, not because of direct salespeople. The sales method of Cutco is the most corrupt and manipulative part of this whole argument. The main reason I ended my job with Vector/Cutco, was because I felt like I was scamming my friends and family by selling overpriced knives. NO ONE needs $80 scissors, but of course they'll buy something from me because 1. they're friends or family and 2. they think they're helping out a college student. If someone really wanted Cutco(which you'd think everyone would since it's claimed to be "the best") all they have to do is go to the cutco website and request a sales rep... but no one does that, reps are made to call only people they personally know, which is part of the whole scheme. I, for one, felt guilty selling this outrageously priced stuff to my friends and family and then perpetuating the cycle by selling it to their friends/family, and so on ("recommendations"). You're the ignorant one for not realizing what you're doing.

I completed the training. I showed to qualified customers. I'm not lazy. I like talking and meeting new people, especially ones referred to from my friends and family. I'm bitter because the whole thing is a manipulative scam. I feel sorry for you and the fact that you fell for it. They really sold you on the idea the same way you're suppose to convice your customers.

As for anyone interested in becoming a sales rep, DON'T DO IT, IT'S NOT WORTH IT! Save yourself the time, energy, gas money, cell phone minutes, and endless hours of unpaid training. Keep your social/outside life by NOT working for Vector. We're college students, we should be spending our summers having fun with a part time job, not stressed out and overwhelmed daily.

A survery of 1000 reps proved half to have earned nothing or actually lost money working for vector.

As for anyone who is a sales rep... I pity you and suggest you GET OUT NOW. You have been successfully brainwashed and manipulated. Your boss loves you because he's making bank off of you.

As for anyone who has considered their work a success... get real... get a life outside of work!... you know you invested way too much time and effort than you ultimately got paid for. If you don't think that, then you're even more brainwashed than I could ever convince you otherwise. Realize though, that if there's this much information and groups against vector/cutco then something must be seriously wrong!
