I have the Fagor 6 qt. Splendid and the three symbols on the valve are the pressure, the release, and the third is the cleaning. Set the valve at the steam release symbol, then lift up on the valve and turn it to the cleaning symbol. The valve will lift altogether then for cleaning and to get at the steam post. I usually run water through it and check on the other side of the lid to make sure that water is coming through. According to the instruction manual, you are not supposed to submerge the lid in water. I assume that I cannot submerge the lid, so I just soap up a sponge, clean out the gasket crevase, and then rinse. I also wash the gasket by hand and rinse. I wash the pan itself by hand. I sure do wish that it could be washed in my dishwasher and don't understand why it can't.
