How about that? I didn't read your post until just now, and we must think alike, because last night I bought a new Presto, after having gotten my money back for the Manttra. On checking it out at home, I see they have improved the locking mechanism that went bad on my old one, after about 10 yrs. It's now spring loaded, and looks pretty slick. I went with the same 4 qt aluminum model, and as before, I'll just avoid cooking anything very acidic or basic in it. Thanks again for your comments, and I have one. The instructions for soaking beans advise the addition of a quarter cup of vegetable oil to the soak water. This is to keep foaming to a minimum. I read that 10 yrs ago, and never did it because I don't need the extral fat. I keep foaming down by keeping the heat down. That is, so the jiggle top jiggles just a little. You probably already know that, but maybe it can benefit someone else. The only negative is that it's made in China, not here.
