Essentially it's a multi-tiered PC insert, as Guy routinely encourages us to use.

Anything you would normally cook above water--broccoli, corn on the cob, steamed pudding-cakes--you would cook without adding liquid to the "plate."

Anything you would normally cook in water--rice, beans--you would cook with liquid in the "plate."

Rice gets water, but not as much as takes what it needs from the steam.

I'm not as sure about the beans. My directions for cooking rice and beans together in a pressure cooker say to put the beans directly in the water where they will be covered, not in a steaming tray.
