You are only fearful because it is unfamiliar. You will quickly find (when you start using it) that you'll wonder what you were afraid of.
Can you scorch it? Sure... but I've been known to scorch a regular pot, too. It is not the end of the world, nor does it ruin you pc. You just develop muscles cleaning it or new brain cells trying to figure out how to clean it without muscles.

Guy's inserts are great, but you don't "have" to have them. It is what you get use to and what you find convenient for your applications. Sorry Guy... but I don't really notice a difference in taste, and I've tried it both ways.

I don't hear my KR hissing in any case. I use an electric stove, too, and I just take a little care that I've turned down the heat low enough to stop the steam making. You'll find the right place on your stove, too. AND just make sure the hole is not blocked and go to it.

Using it will take away all your apprehensions and you'll be a pro before you know it!
