After leaving a Presto 6 qt. that wouldn't open years ago on my patio for quite awhile (fearing the smell of the artichoke inside), I can't remember if I took it to a repair shop or if it finally just opened. All I can tell you for sure is that it's not impossible. Sorry I can't be of more specific help. Good luck!
