It sounds as if you would be more interested in a pressure cooker, not a canner. That would be appropriate for preparing foods. Leftovers can then be frozen. On the other hand, preparation is so fast and easy that you can have fresh food more often and more easily.

When shopping or requesting I strongly recommend looking for a stainless steel, second-generation cooker. They are available at very reasonable prices.

I have been ecstatically happy with my (three) Fagors. I can tell from the photos and the technical specs that Fagor makes QVC's house brand, as well.

Having used both stovetop and electric models, I still find the electric ones not worth the trouble and expense.
