Make sure you don't add those at the beginning of cooking, or your beans will never get soft. I learned this the hard way. Adding a small piece of kombu (a sea vegetable) will help with cooking the beans and help eliminate gas. Salt and acidic foods, such as tomatoes or vinegar, will keep the skins tough, making the beans unable to soften. Good luck and don't give up on the PC.
