I cook everything else, and add the beans after it's done. Try a simple recipe. If it doesn't work, toss it out, chalk it up to experience, and try something else later. It's really easier than you think! Someone posted a Black Bean & Sweet Potato Soup recipe a while back. I have made that a couple of times, and it's easy & tasty. And it uses canned beans!
