Yes it is a lot of rice but I wanted to see how much could be cooked in it. I normally cook 4 cups. (not a small amount either!) I like it re-heated so it saves time.

I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I found a steep sided serving bowl at Crate & Barrel. It fits very nicely on a tripod in a 4.5 or 6 liter pc. It is 2 1/4 quarts & should cook 2 cups of rice. It is called "Lisboa Suffle" # 130-753 made in Portugal "Spal Porcelain" It was $20.00

It does take a little longer to cook with an insert but to me it is worth the extra time. Also, my experience is that it takes less heat to maintain pressure when the volume of liquid is increased. For example, when I steam potatoes in the same 10 liter unit the burner needs to be a notch higher than medium to maintain top pressure. When I cook 4 cups of rice with the insert the heat setting to maintain pressure is a notch below medium. The increased time is probably also due to the indirect heat of the steam. Hope this helps.
