Subject: First try with PC... mostly great but have questions

I have a Kuhn Rikon 2L pressure frypan (I bought the Duo set, so I have the 5L, too) I did try a favorite recipe just to see how things would work. Spanish Rice.

I used a stainless steel metal bowl as an insert (about 1 qt size) and 1 1/4 Cup rice to 2 cups water (your formula Guy)adding a can of chopped tomatoes with green chilies, a little tomato paste to flavor the water, some chopped onions and garlic salt, black pepper and red pepper. (there is lots of "bite" to this)

I was apprehensive because my bowl was filled to the top, practically. I did set it on the trivet. I followed the directions for rice.... 5 minutes on the first ring... but it didn't do much but get it hot. I did it again for 10 more minutes (first ring mostly) and it came out great! Done to perfection. Although there was plenty of room all around the bowl... it did fill up the 2L pc pretty well, especially with the trivet in it, too. Do you need a lot of room all around.... which is why you aren't suppose to fill a pc more than half??? Does that mean with an insert, too?

Now... when you use an insert are things cooked longer because of it? Do you all cook rice on the first ring or the second? Any rice dish I cook only takes 20 min on top of the stove. I don't see much in time saving here. However, the best part of the whole thing was having it already in a serving bowl.... and just popping the lid on to put it in the refrigerator.

I also like the small 2L PC. It is great.... comes up to pressure in an instant practically and doesn't take long to go down by itself. Does anyone else use the smaller size for one or two people only?

Also, I was looking to spending $$$ on one of those crock rice pots, but this cheapie stainless steel bowl with no lid worked great! I think I'll buy some more sizes for my bigger PC. I like having stuff right in a serving bowl. Thanks for all the tips.
