Somebody told me to use it to prevent rice from foaming. I've cooked several varieties of rice in my PC and although I rushed out to buy some kombu some time ago, I have yet to use it. Perhaps my rice is not foaming up because I'm only cooking 2 cups of rice in a 5 quart PC? Is there some rule of thumb as to when the kombu is required? How can you tell that there is foaming going on?
