Kombu is just a seaweed (I don't think it's "flavorless"; it's a little salty.), and dry it looks like hard green-black brittle seaweed strips. When you use it, you just break off a strip 3-4 inches long and drop it in. It hydrates to a semi-slimy, pliable strip of wet grass. And it eliminates foaming without fat. Lori
