Oh, yeah...we only stayed for three days, but had a wonderful time. The WASPs and Tuskegee Airmen were *very* cool for my homeschooled children (after all, how much longer can we expect these living legends to be available to us? Most are octogenarians now.), and the weather was ideal. Just about 80°F and a light breeze, and just a very few fluffy white clouds.

One of the ladies told the funniest story. Most of the WASPs wanted to fly as young children (after all, they were "Lindbergh" children!), and this one in particular said that she heard that pilots had to have good vision. She also heard that carrots were good for your eyes. SO, since she was 10 years old, she's eaten one carrot every single day. She has never needed glasses (she's 83 now), although both parents and all her siblings wore glasses. She tells that story every time she gets to speak, because she often gets parents who come back a year or two later and say that their kids have been eating their vegetables because of her! LOL!

Of course, my 10yo immediately turned to me and said, "Do you have a good recipe for carrots for the pressure cooker?" I've trained her well. (And naturally, Carrots Tsimmes is at the top of our list to try!) Then the child actually turned to this woman and said, "Did you know that you can get as much beta carotene from sweet potatoes, pumpkin and butternut squash? You didn't have to eat only carrots. I bet that got old."

I had to turn away to keep from blasting a laugh in both of their faces. ROFL!

Anyway, the flying was excellent this year. We ate lunch with Jim Bede (rather accidentally) one day, and so the 10yo made another fan. She got to sit in his new BD-17, and we snapped a picture of them handing her the keys! LOL! She was totally convinced she could fly it, since it was just her size. You know, Jim Bede designed that little jet that flew through the hangar in the Bond movie (I forget which one). We also met the test pilot. Nice guys, even if Bede has a questionable business reputation. None of that matters to a 10yo. (c:

She's so determined that she is going to be an astronaut someday. I'm actually dreading June when we'll have Chuck Yeagar and Eileen Collins here as our guests for the Gathering of Eagles at Maxwell AFB. I figure it will take weeks to get her head out of the stars.
