Subject: What is the diff between a PC and a "canner"?

My mom used to do a lot of canning when I was a little kid. She wouldn't let us be in the kitchen at the time. It was a big yellow vat that DID have a pressure gauge, but she says a pressure cooker and a canner are not the same thing. Thoughts, anyone? Thank you...
