Subject: A question about gaskets

I’m new to the world of pressure cookery. I read a recommendation somewhere that the gasket should be removed, cleaned and examined after each use. My question – on most types of pressure cookers is the gasket located on the lid and easily removeable?

On the type I have (by Lagostina) the gasket is housed on the upper edge of the pot and the lid fits in underneath. When you lock the lid, I guess the lid covers the gasket so that no food would come in contact with the gasket. My manual suggests the gasket be replaced at least every 5 years and it has to be done at a Lagostina Service Center.
