The potato flakes is something that I have never thought of. It came out perfectly. I threw in a large amount of un-pealed potato cubes that cooked down nicely to give the soup some viscosity. I also like my split peas to be cooked down to near total disintegration and that usually provides a good bit of thickness to the soup. Garlic? I never have much trouble throwing massive amounts of garlic in my recipes. Jim
