I have read many people use the inserts on a regular basis. I tried one of the tricks of letting the "oxygen escape for a couple of minutes" to cook oatmeal, and it worked the first time around. About the insert, I have been contemplating getting something that fits inside, so I can at least cook multiple things at once. I guess you are saying, if I use an insert the tomato paste won't scorch. It is worth a shot. I guess the worst that can happen is having to clean up the carbon mess if it does not work.
