I have, er... Rather I HAD three stainless steel Presto pressure cookers. My daughter now has them, and is using one or another one of them daily to cook for her family. How she got me to give them all to her is another story, but on to "dishwasher safe":
If I am to trust the product under steam pressure I need to feel it is at least as tough as my Ziplock containers! The only pressure cooker that seems to be listed as "fully submersible and dishwasher safe" is an electric one! You'd think making a stove-top pressure cooker dishwasher safe would be easy if an electric one is dishwasher safe!
I never thought twice about washing the Presto pressure cookers in the dishwasher, but when my boyfriend bought a Swiss-made $200 dollar pressure cooker, I read the manual because the price alone scared me, and there it was in black and white saying that not only was the lid not dishwasher safe, but even the pot itself is not dishwasher safe! They've got to be kidding! I called the company and sure enough, they do not recommend dishwashing because the gasket is made of silicone.
Geesh! My silicone cookware is safe to 600 degrees and fully dishwasher safe. What's wrong with their gaskets?
The old Presto pressure cookers I mentioned in the first line have been washed in the dishwasher hundreds of times. It does not say in the warranty that dishwashing degates the warranty, so why not do it and just be happy.
