I think I have the same pot (actually I have both kinds of Magefesa) but I love mine. It may be the spring in the "little red thing" that is causing your problem. As Bob said you can remove/disassemble it from inside the lid. It may be that the lid was not stored properly or got banged. The lid should be stored upside down on top of the pot to protect the mechanism. Good luck.
