Shari You might call Presto to see what they say, you can probably do a search and find a customer service number or check Miss Vickie's web site. To me there are four issues with using a dishwasher to clean the Presto pressure cooker. The first is I don't think that I would wash the gasket in the dishwasher because of the caustic nature of dishwasher detergent. The second is that overpressure safety is made of some kind of soft compound and I would be afraid that the detergent would erode it away. Depending on the model you may have a safety interlock made of the same material which would also leak. You still must check the pressure regulator hole which you should be doing now. The last is I am not sure that the plastic handles are dishwasher safe. I have an Oster blender that I have had for several years and always washed the glass jar by hand. A couple of years ago I decided to wash the jar in the dishwasher. The result is that the shiny part on the bright shiny black handle was eroded away and now I have a dull rough handle. The Presto pressure cooker handles composition reminds me of the Oster jar handle and I would be leery of the same thing happening to the Presto handle. I wonder if the handle wouldn't erode away just a little every time that you washed the pressure cooker in the dishwasher. Best of luck Bob Kopitzke
