That's great that your soup turned out well. Was it your first pc'ing effort? As far as the insert goes, I usually put it in before the lower water is boiling. It is not a huge risk but my main reason for putting it in before the lower water gets hot is to avoid burning myself. A bit of steam is usually visible to determine if the water below is boiling. It is not too big of a deal if the lid is closed a couple of minutes before a rapid boil is attained. I haven't cooked without an insert (steamer or pot) for about 5 years now with one exception. Artichokes have virtually no chance of scorching in a large pot or pc so I have not used an insert for those but come to think of it, I may just see if an insert makes any difference. Like beans, they might turn out less beaten up with an insert. I will have to give it a try. Regarding your question about whether or not to saute something, personally, I like the flavor of garlic sauted in a teaspoon of oil rather than adding raw garlic into a recipe. I don't take the main valve apart very often but I do usually rinse the inside of the lid & gasket before each use whether or not it needs it. Did you have any pea residue on the inside of the lid? Glad you like the size & quality of the Fissler. I was a little concerned because I know that because I like something it does not mean that everyone else will think the same. :-) By the way, did anyone else get to taste your split pea soup? Feedback?
