The only thing that I suggest doing is to cover the pot that contains the rice. I have read somewhere that the teflon coating can flake off in very small particles that can be absorbed through the large or small intestine and is virtually indestructable. I think that a damaged coating would more likely to flake off, and I would take the precaution of covering the pot.
