slim,

while you have written a substantial and sincere post (much better, imho, than some much shorter diatribes elsewhere here), it is unclear how your conviction that mcdougall is using "fallacious reasoning" leads you into a connecting of cigarette butts with the grinding of the american constitution not to mention the liberal sprinklings of various concepts such as marxism, healthcare and mortgages.

nor do i see how mcdougall has been in the least bit "cavalier" towards mccain.

mcdougall has provided an accurate assessment of the health of both candidates and has supported his arguments with references. furthermore, his medical qualifications put him in a position to draw certain conclusions from the compiled evidence.

do note this statement of his:
"While it is impossible to predict with certainty any person's future health, time of death, or degree of disability, the evidence at hand clearly says John McCain is in relatively poor health and Barack Obama is in excellent health. All politics aside, no one could conclude otherwise."

and he also ends with the statement:
"the health of our candidates is of paramount importance and should be weighed appropriately."

both these statements should serve to make you aware that it is your initial accusation that mcdougall is suggesting
"the candidate's health habits alone are grounds ..." for determining whom to vote for
is the "fallacious reasoning" here.
