i am puzzled by this statement based on the actuarial tables:

"Based solely on their age, and no other health issues, McCain’s life expectancy is 12 years and Obama’s is 31 years."

how is it that mccain should 'expect' to live to 84, while obama should 'expect' to live to only 78?

i do not know about the mechanisms involved with these tables and don't have time to figure it out. so i would appreciate if someone can answer the logic here and what factors come into play for these predictions.
