There are so many dissenting opinions on parenting. I think because every child is different but also because every stage of childhood is different. Choices at 2 are usually inappropriate, but at seven or eight can be empowering and teach personal consequence. Removing valuable or breakable objects from an environment is a reasonable thing to do when a child is very young and exploring, but there comes a time when a child must learn his place in the world (not the center), and that everything is not instant gratification.

It just takes a lot of being on your toes to navigate it all. And in the end we look back and realize we were far from perfect but if we do our best, they grow up and we nurture loving relationships throughout all the imperfection, our children can become our closest allies.
