While my iron readings were on the low side toward
the end of the pregnancy, my midwife commented that
most womens' were much much lower. Pregnancy does
use it up quite a lot, which is why iron supplements
are often recommended. As a vegan, your iron
metabolism is not what will be expected by your
doctors.

You need to know both your blood iron levels and ferritin
stores.

Go easy on the iron supplements if you do decide to
take them. They can be quite powerful and are toxic
in overdose. Plus you can get really bad
constipation.
